Information for Getting Married in the DR
Simple legal Requeriments to get married in the Dominican Republic
Civil Wedding:
Dominican Citizens:
- Birth Certificate of bride and groom
- Identification Card of bride and groom
- Identification Card of 2 witnesses (not family members)
Foreign Nationals:
*Birth Certificate of bride and groom
*Document of single unmarried status (divorced or widow(er) certificate). Ten (10) months must have elapsed since last divorce.
*One passport photocopy of the bride and groom (or other document used to enter DR)
*Passport photocopies of the witnesses (not family members)
Certificate of Single Status
Single Status Affidavit shall read as follows:
“I, (your name here) declare that I am a single person, that I have never been married, and have never applied for a Marriage License in the state of (fill in where you reside) or in any other state in__________(country).
My fiancée and I will be married in the Dominican Republic on (date, or approximate date of the wedding)”. SIGNED AND AUTHENTICATED BY A NOTARY.
If you have been married before, it must read “SINGLE, DIVORCED, MY DIVORCE BECAME FINAL ON (DATE OF YOUR DIVORCE) AND I HAVE NOT APPLIED FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE IN THE……MY COURT CASE No.WAS ( ), PERFORMED BY JUDGE (JUDGE´S NAME), IN THE COURT OF (COUNTY & STATE).
Note: These documents must be authenticated by your nearest Dominican Consulate before you arrive in the Dominican Republic. Also said documents must be legally translated into Spanish in said consulate or by a legal interpreter in the DR. Check the cost of this procedure when contacting the Dominican Republic Consulate
